With strong ambitions of directing and choreographing for both stage and film, Md Al-Hafiz Bin Hosni graduated from the LASALLE's Bachelor of honours in Musical Theatre programme after his Diploma in Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Prior to that, Al-Hafiz had also been training in traditional and contemporary Malay dance since 2011 with Azpirasi, under the tutelage of Azmi Juhari and mentorship of Ismail Jemaah, Hasyimah Harith and National Art Council's Young Artist Award recipient, Norhaizad Adam. Further trainings include an intermediate pas de deux mentorship programme with Acro Arts Sg, Steps On Broadway Summer Study in New York City, a directing training programme with Chong Tze Chien, and being a P7:1SMA dance associate.
In 2023, Al-Hafiz’s solo Malay dance video in Times Square (New York), gained virality on TikTok and Instagram in Singapore and Malaysia, and he was featured on news platforms like “The New Paper (SG)”, “Mothership (SG)”, “Have Halal, Will Travel (SG)”, “SAYS (MY)” and “World of Buzz (MY)”. When Al-Hafiz is not in rehearsals or performing, he teaches traditional Malay Dance in primary and secondary school CCAs, and teaches Musical Theatre Jazz to adults at The Dance Place Singapore and Distinct Creative Arts. With an extensive age range of students, Al-Hafiz is well-versed in communicating and articulating his ideas and visions to students and fellow arts collaborators of different ages, genders, and ways of life.
