Azman Shariff has been involved in theatre since 1983 with the performing arts group Sriwana. Under the guidance of the playwrights Nadiputra (Cultural Medallion recipient, 1986, in Drama) and Haji Hamid Ahmad.
He landed major acting roles in Sriwana’s productions for the Singapore Drama Festival in the 80s and 90s, alongside other responsibilities as production and creative crew. He also received tutelage from Lynn Schey, a theater instructor from Australia, leading to an illustrious career in theatre, television and radio, with lead roles in the 2015 Project Suitcase monologue "Mr Bangsawan" (Teater Ekamatra), the Bangsawan (Malay Opera) "Satria Menara Putih" staged in Singapore, KL and Medan, Indonesia in 2017.
He made his directorial debut with Nadiputra's "Jazz Kepalang Tanggung" in 2003 at the Victoria Theatre, Singapore, and was the artistic director of "Bamboo-The Musical" in 2021 staged at the Our Tampines Hub theatre.
On television, Azman has acted in many bangsawan and sandiwara (Malay dramas), from the days of the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) until MediaCorp today. He is also actively involved in the ”Drama Radio” which airs on Warna 94.2FM. He is also a voice artist for Mediacorp CNA Malay documentary programme and other art related programne.
Azman shares his knowledge and expertise with several groups, including Sriwana, Teater 2K, Perkumpulan Seni, Teater Ekamatra, Teater Kami and Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts.
He collaborated with Anggerik Temasek Bangsawan for the Malay Culture Fest 2021, acting in "Bangsawan Dang Anum." He also directed "Bangsawan Puteri Dewi Gemala" for Sriwana and produced the forum - "Syair in Bangsawan" for the Singapore Bangsawan Festival 2022.
