The Singapore Bangsawan Festival, scheduled from 9 to 23 February 2025 at the iconic Esplanade, celebrates the rich tradition of Malay Opera known as Bangsawan. This festival showcase the rich cultural heritage and artistic diversity of Singapore through a series of captivating performances, workshops, and digital exhibitions.
Bangsawan combines elements of music, dance, drama, and storytelling to create mesmerising productions that reflect the colourful tapestry of Malay culture. The festival features performances by talented artists and troupes from the different art groups from Singapore, presenting classic Bangsawan repertoire as well as innovative interpretations of this cherished art form.
In addition to performances, the festival offers workshops where participants can learn about the history and techniques of Bangsawan, as well as engage with experienced practitioners to deepen their understanding of this unique theatrical tradition.
