These rules aim to ensure a fair and enriching Bangsawan competition, fostering creativity, cultural appreciation, and healthy competition among schools.
The competition is open to all schools both public and private, with students in the respective age group or grade level. For Open Category, participants aged 17 years and above are welcome, regardless of their affiliation with any organization or arts group.

Category A: Kinder (4 to 6 years old)
Category B: Primary (7 to 12 years old)
Category C: Secondary (13 to 16 years old)
Category D: Open Category (17 years and above)
Each participating school in Kiinder Category must prepare and perform a Bangsawan production consisting of a minimum of 5 but not more than 15 cast. For Primary, Secondary and Open Category, the team must consist of a minimum of 5 but not more than 7 cast.
The performance may include music, dance, acting, and/or storytelling elements. The performance will be based on the Bangsawan production 'Sang Nila Utama' and 'Sri Wikrama Wira' written by Anwar Hadi Ramli The script will be provided to participating schools and teams from the Open Category.
Each performance will be provided a 10-minute time limit to ensure fairness and efficiency for Kinder Category and 15-minute time limit for Primary and Secondary category. For the Open Category, the team will be provided with a 20-minute time limit. This limit allows schools to showcase their talents effectively while ensuring a smooth flow of the competition.
A panel of experienced judges will evaluate the performances based on various criteria, including artistic interpretation, technical execution, stage presence, storytelling, musicality, and overall impact. Clear guidelines and scoring rubrics will be provided to ensure consistency in judging.
Schools and teams are encouraged to create and utilise traditional props, costumes, and set designs that authentically represent the Bangsawan art form. Creativity and attention to detail in these aspects will be highly valued.
Performances will be conducted in Malay.
Participants must demonstrate respect for the Bangsawan art form and its cultural origins. This includes accurate portrayal of characters, adherence to traditional storytelling techniques, and sensitivity to cultural nuances.
All participants, including students, teachers, and supporting staff, should exhibit good sportsmanship throughout the competition. Collaboration, respect for fellow competitors, and adherence to competition rules are essential.
At the conclusion of the competition, awards will be presented to recognise outstanding performances.
